Freshness

Chuckwagon's Best vendors are selected for their reputation in producing and packaging quality products. Noted below are important recommendations and information on proper storage that will contribute to longer lasting freshness and taste.

Cowboy Coffee:

Cowboy Coffee is immediately packed after being "custom roasted" in four-ply constructed laminated bags that are specifically designed to create a strong barrier against oxygen and moisture to maintain and ensure freshness. The coffee bag is outfitted with a one-way degassing valve that is activated when CO2, a natural bi-product gas, is released by freshly roasted beans. This "venting" insures the freshness and helps in maintaining the distinctive aroma and flavor for a much longer period of time.

Coffee beans are negatively affected by exposure to water and oxygen so it is best to store them in a container with a tightly fitting lid to reduce the effect of condensation and exposure to oxygen. An airtight container will also reduce the chance that coffee will pick up other tastes. A glass container is best, as it doesn't retain the odors of the beans or the oils, which could contaminate future beans stored in the same container. However, if you do use glass, keep the container in a cupboard away from sunlight, as sunlight will reduce freshness. Do not freeze coffee beans or ground coffee. Freezing and refrigeration can damage some of subtle tastes in the coffee. Whole coffee beans will last three times longer than ground coffee. This is because less surface area of the bean has been exposed to oxygen. If possible, grind your coffee on a daily basis as needed to insure freshness, flavor and natural taste.
