"Kent
Rollins Cooks up Food and Tales. If you find yourself headed
for that proverbial desert island and can take only one thing,
quick, grab Kent Rollins. He can entertain you with his stories
and poetry, and he can cook!" Review
by Margo Metegrano - CowboyPoetry.com
Simply put, Kent Rollins is one of a kind. Raised in southwest
Oklahoma near the banks of the Red River, Kent grew up around
the cattle business and has never been able to get away from
it - not that he'd want to. He learned to cook from his mother
at an early age and has turned that into a first class business.
Kent and his 1876 Studebaker Chuck wagon won the Lubbock,
Texas, Chuck wagon Cook-off in 1996 and the for both 1996
and 1997 voted the Will Rogers Award for Chuck wagon of the
Year by the Academy of Western Artists. Also a poet and storyteller,
Kent received the Skinny Rowland Humor Award for Best Humorist
and Storyteller in 2002. Kent and his wagon, also have the
honor of being designated by the Governor of Oklahoma "Official
Chuck wagon of Oklahoma" representing the State's Western
Chuck wagon Heritage at local and National events and festivals.
Kent has entertained and cooked from Hollywood to Branson
and many points in between. If you haven't had the luck to
meet him in person at his 1876 Studebaker Chuck wagon, you
may have seen him on the Food Network, QVC, or the Family
Channel.
His new Cookbook, "Chuck wagon Cooking from The Red River
Ranch" is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach, and
his "Stories and Poems" tape is the perfect accompaniment.
The book's recipes cover breakfast to dessert, with some great
standouts including Sourdough Cornbread, Hash Brown Potato
Casserole, and Aunt Ola's Chocolate Cake, which the author
first made when he was 9 years old. The book has a selection
of Rollin's photographs that capture the beauty and mood of
the places he roams and of his cooking gear. The well-made
book includes poetry, tales, musings on meals, and useful
primers on cast iron and coffee, "the most important part
of any ranch meal."
Kent recently has joined up with Bob Sigman, past President
of Republic Pictures, in Sigman's new western products company,
Chuckwagon's Best. (www.chuckwagonsbest.com)
The company markets it's trademark Cowboy Coffee and other
western heritage products including Gourmet Beef Strips, Custom
Milled Flours and Corn Meal, Seasoning and Campfire Mugs.
For Western Music fans. Sigman has complied an exclusive CD,
Cowboy's Round the Campfire, offering a unique blend of traditional
western music, poetry and storytelling that can be appreciated
by all.

PRESS RELEASE
Lone Pine, California October 10, 2002
Do you know who Charles Goodnight Was?
The population growth of mid-west and northern cities after
the Civil War created a need for increased food supplies
particularly
Beef. The only way to get the cattle to the markets in this
pre-railroad era was by the trail drive. These long trail
drives required men, and men required large amounts of food.
To solve the problem of transporting the food, Charles Goodnight
purchased a government wagon and had it rebuilt according
to his design specifications. A sloping box with shelves and
drawers and a hinged lid that became a cook's worktable was
on the rear. To the cowboys "chuck" was food, so
the box was called a "chuck box" and the wagon became
known as the "chuck wagon."
This simple story is behind the launch of a new company -
Cattleman's Trading Company; and its own brand of "chuck"
products that are being introduced under the Chuckwagon's
Best trademark.
Bob Sigman, founder of the company, has roots in the west
from his six-year association as President and CEO of Republic
Pictures, the silver screen home of many of the first Hollywood
Cowboys. Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, The Lone Ranger and John
Wayne all called Republic their home at some point in their
careers.
Sigman, now living in Virginia, maintains a home in Lone Pine,
California, a quiet town located at the base of Mount Whitney
in the Eastern Sierras. Why Lone Pine? Well, more Western
movies were made in the local Alabama Hills than anywhere
else in the world. Sigman loves the independent spirit of
the community and enjoys the western ambience and living among
the legendary "Alabama Rocks."
A few years ago he was joking with a friend about wanting
"cowboy coffee," complaining it wasn't in the stores
now
he's roasting it! Chuckwagon's Best Cowboy Coffee is
one of the initial products Sigman is launching this month
from the Lone Pine Film Festival. His "chuck" also
includes Beef Strips, Biscuit Flour and Corn Meal, complimented
with authentic "campfire" mugs, bandanas and canvas
bags.
While Sigman believes there are many who will appreciate
the original packaging, he emphasizes that a great deal of
research went into selecting and developing the quality products.
Cowboy coffee, for example, should by definition be dark,
deep and hearty - some might say, "not right unless a
horseshoe floated it." But today, he doesn't think there
would be many takers for that kind of "mud!" Sigman
says, "the Cowboy Coffee roast will serve any palate;
its original taste achieved from blending select 100% Arabica
beans, specific temperature roasting and a 'custom smoking'
process that yields great flavor, aroma and most importantly
- a Great Taste."
He's provided a 'Brewin' table' on the package, offering Cow
Poke, Ranch Hand and Trail Boss strengths.
"Finding unique, quality manufactures has been tantamount
in developing the product line. Our Beef Sticks are 100% USDA
inspected, 96% fat free, hand cut extra thick, not thin, marinated
for over 24 hours and then smoked over hickory chips, providing
an exciting taste in three flavors - Traditional, Teriyaki
and Cajun.
The flour and corn meal are family secrets-at least that
is what Sigman's wife has always told him. No matter where
the Sigman family has lived, his wife Susanne has always had
relatives traveling to see them, bringing with them a suitcase
of locally milled Virginia flour. "I do not know how
many times I have carried from the airport, one suitcase of
clothes and another one, weighing sixty pounds, full of flour
and corn meal."
Why? It's the only products his wife and family use in their
baking. There are Blue Ribbon awards for country biscuits
and pies, as well as unbelievable corn bread, as testimonials
to their quality and flavorful richness. The local Virginia
mill was founded in 1850 and has been owned by the same family
since the early 1900s. Raw product is purchased from select
growers and the milling process is as original as when the
mill first started. The only change is the conversion from
waterpower to electric in the mid 1950s.
"Reaching friends and Western connoisseurs is our first
goal' Sigman says. 'I would love to see the products at retail.
Time will tell."
A Western motif web site, www.chuckwagonsbest.com, introduces
the company and offers the products individually or in various
combinations. Additionally, the website offers Western and
cowboy links, as well as selected products to fit the audience.
He is very excited to have put together Cowboys 'Round the
Campfire, a compilation CD featuring four of his cowboy artist
friends. It offers a unique blend of traditional western music,
poetry and storytelling that he believes will be appreciated
by all.
Well, check it out
. you might soon find yourself pretending
to be sittin' on the porch of your ranch in full respite from
a cowboy breakfast that included Chuckwagon's Best buttermilk
biscuits or corn bread offerings, thick full flavored Beef
Strips and, of course, a Campfire Mug of Chuckwagon's Best
Cowboy Coffee in hand.

British Archive Of Country Music
O.J. Sikes of Rope Burn Magazine, on Les Buffham, "One of
the Best poets in the West" and on his poetry, "I love 'em."
Why Cowboys 'Round the Campfire?
The CD compilation is the inspiration of Bob Sigman. As
a youngster growing up in Ohio, he (like many kids) went to
the Saturday movie matinees to see Roy Rogers, Gene Autry
and the Lone Ranger. In later years, they were watched on
TV. After college, a career followed, and ultimately, a family.
In those years, Sigman says "other priorities overshadowed
his early heroes of the silver screen. But fate (or destiny)
brought him to Republic Pictures Studio as President & CEO
in 1994. Roy, Gene and The Lone Ranger called "The Lot" home
there for many years. Sigman got to meet these long time heroes
from his childhood and it rekindled great memories of the
past; provided exciting memories for the present, and opened
the door into the "Cowboy Lifestyle."
"I am blessed to have walked through that door where and found
many new friends that share in a lifestyle having its roots
in one of the greatest periods of America's heritage," Sigman
says.
With a desire to develop and share many of the great tastes
of the American West; Sigman launched a new company, Cattleman's
Trading Company, and has introduced a line of Western food
products under the Chuckwagon's Best trademark - Cowboy Coffee,
Beef Strips, Biscuit Flour and Corn Meal; all authentic, all
first quality.
Most excitingly, he had a chance to work with four of his
favorite Cowboy entertainers to put together this CD compilation
offering a unique blend of traditional western music, poetry
and storytelling. from four of America's finest Western artists.

Pancake & Waffle Mix
Seasoned Flour
All-Purpose Flour
|
"Great Flavor!" That seems to be the
first expression of bakers that have been using Chuckwagon's
Best™ Self-Rising Flour and Corn Meal. "The overall reception
to these two initial products was so good we decided to move
ahead on additional choices for our customers," says Bob Sigman,
Founder of Chuckwagon's Best™.
This month, Sigman added a Pancake & Waffle Mix, Seasoned
Flour and All-Purpose Flour to the product line. All Chuckwagon's
Best™ are milled the old fashioned way; the quality in their
heritage - a Central Virginia Mill, whose origins date back
to 1850, and under one family since the early 1900's. Raw
product is purchased from select growers and the milling process
is as original as when the mill first started. The only change
is the conversion from waterpower to electric in the mid 1950s.The
Mill's custom milling process slowly reduces select grains
to a unique consistency removing impurities; the resulting
grain, an ultra-fine textured flour/meal that will enhance
your prize winning recipes
"Family secret"-at least that is what Sigman's wife
has always told him and friends when asked how such wonderful
and flavorful baked goods make their way to the table and
are so quickly devoured! No matter where the Sigman family
has lived, his wife Susanne has always had relatives traveling
to see them, bringing with them a suitcase of locally milled
Virginia flour. "I do not know how many times I have carried
from the airport, one suitcase of clothes and another one,

Why? It's the only products his wife and family use in their

And they're easy to use says, Susanne. Just add milk & eggs
to our Chuckwagon's Best™ Pancake
& Waffle Mix and you'll have ranch hands standing
'round the bunkhouse waiting to eat. The light an' fluffy
texture come from stiffly beating egg whites. The recipe is
easy; it's on the bag and like all our recipes also available
on the website.

and vegetables; and when used for gravies brings exciting
added flavor to many dishes.
